Green doesn't mean it worked

26 Oct 2026

The most expensive n8n failures don't show up as failures at all.

A search returns zero rows. A webhook stops getting called because a form was rebuilt. An API hands back an empty array. The execution goes green, the Error Trigger never fires, and the client finds out weeks later that no leads got through.

Monitor outcomes, not just errors:

  • Decide what "worked" means for each workflow (for example, at least one CRM record created per weekday).
  • Add an IF node after the key step that checks item count or a required field, and route the "false" branch to an alert.
  • Watch for workflows that haven't run at all when they should have.

An error tells you something broke. A missing outcome tells you something broke that nobody noticed.
